One of the oldest plastic types is still of great economic importance: about 90 years ago, polystyrene was first produced in Germany. To this day, most yogurt cups are made of polystyrene. Since 1950, polystyrene has also been foamed and marketed as, for example, “Styropor”. Ceresana examined the global market for polystyrene (PS) and expanded polystyrene (EPS). The analysts expect global sales generated with these plastics, i.e. PS and EPS combined, will rise to more than USD 37.3 billion until 2026. Polystyrene Universe: PS, GPPS, HIPS, XPS Polystyrene (PS) includes general purpose polystyrene, high impact polystyrene, and extruded polystyrene. Advantageous characteristics of PS, e.g. surface gloss, impact resistance, resistance to stress cracking, and flow properties allow for a broader range of applications compared to EPS. Global PS demand reached a volume of approx. 11.2 million tonnes in 2018. PS is mainly used in the packaging industry. Additionally, it is often ... Weiterlesen
Paints and coatings do not only make our lives more colorful and beautiful; they also protect materials and significantly increase the durability of many objects. Regarding vehicles, coatings serve as corrosion protection. Furthermore, they can be self-cleaning and antibacterial. Ceresana analyzed the European market for paints and coatings already for the third time: In 2017, almost 9 million tonnes of these products were utilized. Rising Demand on the Part of the Construction Industry Architectural paints are the largest application area of paints and coatings. Residential construction has a rising demand for facade and interior wall paints, yet, large commercial construction and infrastructure projects provide for a positive development of revenues. The market researchers of Ceresana forecast that about 58% of all paints and coatings will be utilized in the construction industry in 2025. Application for industrial goods is decisively affected by the economic situation of individual countries. In this segment, ... Weiterlesen
Should single use carrier bags be banned? Discussions on this topic increase in the media of many countries. More and more countries try to banish lightweight plastic bags in particular from retail or at least to reduce their consumption. However, not only carrier bags belong to the sector bags and sacks: The current Ceresana bags and sacks market report, which is already the second edition, also provides extensive information on garbage bags and sacks, heavy duty and industry sacks as well as pouch packaging for foodstuffs. Many different influential factors affect this complex market. Besides several plastic types, the study also deals with bags and sacks made of paper.
