innoSPICE Special Interest Group launch

The bonita Enhanced Innovation and Technology Transfer Model will soon be joining the SPICE community in the form of a Special Interest Group (SIG) of the SPICE User Group called „innoSPICE“.

The bonita project (<a href="“ rel=“nofollow“> partners have been working for 3 years on a process reference and assessment model that can help knowledge-intense institutions generate more innovation while helping investors and research institutions optimize public funds to achieve economic added value. The project’s efforts resulted in the creation of the bonita Enhanced Innovation and Technology Transfer Model.

The original idea of an ISO/IEC 15504 conformant evaluation tool for technology transfer and innovation processes grew from Prof. Antanas Mitasiunas, Vilnius University, which was then expounded upon by Dr. Michael Boronowsky with the support of the expert knowledge and excellent transfer structures in the Center for Computing and Communication Technologies (TZI) at University of Bremen in Germany.

Since then, the bonita model has been successfully used by various institutions in the Baltic region in improving their technology transfer practices. Now, the bonita project is partnering with SPICE User Group, a non-profit membership organization, which promotes the practical and beneficial use of the ISO/IEC 15504 standards, to implement the project results on a larger scale.

Bonita has confirmed that they will soon launch „innoSPICE“: a Special Interest Group (SIG) within the SPICE User Group. innoSPICE will be dedicated to advancing the bonita process reference and assessment model into an international standard/instrument for quality management in the field of innovation, knowledge and technology transfer.

„innoSPICE“ will be joining the ranks of other SIGs which seek to develop a common framework for assessing and improving processes in their respective fields: Automotive SPICE ® (which addresses the software capability of the supplier in the supplier evaluation process,, Enterprise SPICE (which addresses enterprise processes,, and Medi SPICE (which addresses process assessment for medical device software, innoSPICE will have its own web site linked to the official SPICE User Group site(

The creation of innoSPICE marks a major milestone for the bonita project as the initiative further expands and strengthens the outreach of process assessment models to a wider community.

bonita is a European INTERREG 4B project in the Baltic Sea region with a 3-year span (2009 – 2012).

The goal of the project is to support interregional development of the Baltic Sea region by turning university research into business value.

The final conference to mark the completion of the bonita project will take place in Riga on November 24, 2011 (<a href="“ rel=“nofollow“> ), where, among other activities, the 20 European project partners will sign a Memorandum of Understanding committing to the continued development and support of the results bonita has achieved during its operational period, including: the formation of a transnational network, the establishment of a showcase network, and the creation of the Enhanced Innovation and Technology Transfer Model.

Linda Ibrahim, the Enterprise SPICE project leader, will be present at the final conference to represent the Enterprise SPICE initiative. The bonita Enhanced Innovation and Technology Transfer Model inherits several elements from Enterprise SPICE.

The SPICE User Group (<a href="“ rel=“nofollow“> is a non-profit membership organization. It has a formal liaison with the ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7 standardization group which develops the ISO/IEC 15504 process assessment standards and hosts the annual series of International SPICE Conferences (
