THERCAST : Simulation software for ingot and continuous casting

showimage THERCAST : Simulation software for ingot and continuous casting

In this simulation of a bottom-filled ingot casting process, THERCAST demonstrates that insufficient amounts of exothermic powder have resulted in too-rapid cooling of parts of the ingot, producing a void that will make the ingot unusable.

Launch of the new TRANSVALOR simulation software THERCAST 2012
Mougins – France, 20 June 2012

Transvalor THERCAST is a 3-D finite-element software system that simulates ingot and continuous casting of steel and other metals.

All numerous thermal and mechanical properties of the casting processes are summarized in a single model and a single set of algorithms. This means that the precise modeling of very complex relationships between liquid, solid and solidifying metals and all elements of the casting process is possible without using additional software tools from different sellers, which involves inevitable compatibility problems.

Continuous casting: THERCAST software accurately simulates in three dimensions the process in each cooling zone as well as in places where the cooling metal comes into contact with ladles, nozzles, tundishes, rolls, sprays and air. Thus, you avoid cracks and tearing and the casting speed is optimized. The simulation program predicts bulging between the rolls so that you avoid accidents, delays and damage of the machinery.

Ingot casting: The program offers special features for ingot casting, i.e for predicting and preventing shrinkage cracks and air gaps, simulating exothermic powders, determining the ingot molds or optimizing the demolding time. The software calculates at which point the shrinkage of the cooling metal leads to cavities. This is often the only way to detect their presence.

Parallel computing architecture: THERCAST software includes a powerful parallel processing capability, allowing it to benefit from the power of up to 64 core processors.

Import from CAD-Systems: THERCAST includes modules that can use detailed information from CAD systems about casting equipment, including molds, dies, rolls and sprays and their locations and features.

Compatibility with Transvalor FORGE: In environments where future forging parts are simulated with FORGE, THERCAST results are directly transferable and intregrated to the Forge software without any loss of information.
