South East Asia seeking for sustainable Smart Grid and Metering Solutions

Orga Systems showcases prepaid deployment to leverage smart electricity business
Paderborn (Germany), Jakarta (Indonesia), 22 August 2013 – The financial situation of Southeast Asia’s population is clearly improving as the economic growth is developing faster compared to other regions. Due to a more disposable income among the middle class as well as increasing urbanization and industrialization, consumption is rising and therefore leading to a higher demand for reliable energy. Consequently, countries need to invest in technology to ensure that the demand is met, which is currently growing faster than the supply. When it comes to this, Utilities will have to invest into network efficiency, which will enable the implementation of demand side management programs and strategies. Hence, they will need Smart Grids and Smart Back Office tools to support such complex undertakings. At the upcoming Smart Utilities Business Platform Conference in Jakarta, Orga Systems, a leading software vendor for real-time charging and billing solutions, with an international customer base in the telecommunications, utilities and machine-to-machine markets, will showcase its international awarded prepaid energy solution for smart metering environments.
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), primary energy demand in South East Asia will expand by 90% until 2035, at an annual growth rate of 2.3% – almost double the 1.2% average rate in the rest of the world. To sustain its economic growth, the region needs massive investment in energy generation including renewable energy (RE) and power transmission and distribution (T&D) sectors.
“It comes as no surprise that the capital expenditure (CAPEX) of the utilities in Southeast Asia is in the billions. Developing smart grid programs, upgrading ageing asset, installing prepayment and smart meters are some of the areas which the utilities have identified for heavy investment. With this in mind, Southeast Asia Utility Business Platform in Jakarta is a timely event. It is an event crafted by the industry for the industry with the aim of addressing the key issues facing the electric utility industry in the region”, underlines Project Director Zaf Coelho.
The conference will focus on how Utilities can ensure reliable and profitable power through the adoption of next generation technologies such as Smart Grids and Smart Metering. Mr. David Burks, Vice President Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa at Orga Systems, will address the maximization and protection of revenue and showcase results based on Orga Systems’ awarded prepaid deployment in the Philippines.
The event, taking place from 28 August – 30 August at Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Jakarta, is supported and endorsed by Indonesia’s Agency for Technology Assessment and Application (BPPT).***
