Chris Hemsworth reacquired Andrew Garfield for quantum rookie!

he Amazing Spider-Man almost had a more brutal fight scene between Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and the perceived killer of Uncle Ben. After Sam Raimi’s trilogy wrapped up in 2007, Sony Entertainment Pictures rebooted the Marvel character by bringing in Andrew Garfield for the role of Spider-Man/Peter Parker. It had only been five years since the previous trilogy ended when the studio rolled out the new version, with Marc Webb helming the project.

Since it was a revamp, Sony Pictures tackled Peter’s iconic origin story involving Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) dying as an indirect result of his choices. As he grieves his beloved mentor, Peter goes on a searching spree, relentlessly trying to nab the murderer going by the physical description of the assailant from the tragic night. This leads him to a confrontation with a different thug who is harassing a lady in an alleyway. The fight scene that follows was pretty great, capping it off with an intense chase scene. That said, the whole sequence was originally very different as Webb apparently wanted to make it more brutal.

During a recent guest appearance in The McCaw Podcast Universe, Ilram Choi, a stuntman who worked on The Amazing Spider-Man, recalled what the aforementioned scene was going to look like. He said that since the director wanted to highlight Peter’s frustrations and grief over the death of Uncle Ben, the encounter would’ve featured him repeatedly punching the thug in the face. Choi interjected and reminded the crew that despite his age, Spider-Man is physically enhanced, meaning if he hit the criminal that many times he would essentially kill him. Read Choi’s full explanation, below:

There’s a scene in Amazing Spider-Man where Andrew Garfield, Peter Parler looking for his uncle’s killer. He’s going around, just kind of being a vigilante, looking for that tattoo on the wrist so he can bring his uncle’s killer to justice. And it’s a montage of him beating all these guys, but there’s one particular scene where he’s in an alley way and you see this thug smacking around a woman and Peter Parker’s like ‚hey, pick someone your own size‘ and I don’t know if you remember that scene, but what the director wanted… it’s written that the thug pulls a gun and Spider-Man disarms him and beats him up.

So then the fight coordinator and the director get together and they try to choreograph and come up with something, but the director wanted, again, the emotions; that he wanted to show how angry Peter is and how frustrated he was in searching for this guy who killed his uncle. And he wanted the scene where he disarms the guy from the gun, but then, he grabs him and he starts punching him in the face like over and over and over until it gets to the ground, just showing frustration and I had to interject because I was like ‚guys, this is Spider-Man, he can punch through steel, pick up a car and throw it, his anger and frustration and punching the guy’s face, he will liquefy him, you’ll knock his head off, in the first place’…. it doesn’t make sense.“

The Amazing Spider-Man scene was altered and instead of a brutal one-on-one fight, Peter has to fend off a bunch of thugs who came to the perpetrator’s rescue. Choi does make a great point by saying that as originally conceived, the scene would’ve had some viewers questioning if it contradicts Spider-Man’s moral code of not killing. That said, considering what the character was going through at that point, it’s entirely understandable for Peter to lose control like that. He needs an emotional outlet considering what’s just happened, zeroing in on the criminal who just happens to look like Uncle Ben’s murderer.

Chris Hemsworth will play Thor again after Thor: Love and Thunder, and here are some Marvel movies he could appear in. As one of the original members of the Avengers, it appeared Thor’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was coming to a close just a few years ago. Neither of his solo films was a huge hit and Hemsworth was starting to become bored with the character. But, the god of thunder has been transformed into one of the MCU’s best characters with a bright future over his recent appearances.

The rebirth of Thor began with Thor: Ragnarok, where writer/director Taika Waititi flipped the overly-serious tone of the character and leaned completely into Hemsworth’s comedic talents. This was also where Thor’s power levels increased substantially. When he then was put in the hands of the Russo brothers for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, they balanced the humor with Thor’s history of loss. In doing so, he got a compelling arc and was the only original Avenger to receive direct set up for more adventures.

Thor will return next in Thor: Love and Thunder, making him the first MCU character to lead four solo films. Even though Thor 4 will also see Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) transform into Mighty Thor, Odinson is still going to be the lead. If Hemsworth has his way, it won’t be the last time he plays Thor either. He’s confirmed that he will play Thor again after Thor: Love and Thunder but didn’t reveal when and where this will happen. As a result, there is nothing left to do but speculate about what Thor’s future could hold, and here are some MCU movies that could bring Hemsworth back.
