From a total of 110 applications from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Belarus, France, Israel, Lithuania, Russia, Serbia and the Netherlands, 26 applicants have made it onto the shortlist for the European Cultural Brand Awards 2021. This year, ten award winners will be honored for the first time at individual events in Europe. The award ceremony in the category „European* Cultural Investor of the Year 2021“ to the European Cultural Foundation with its fund „Culture of Solidarity Fund“ took place on November 30, 2021, at 10 am in the Berlin scene club TRESOR without audience. Due to the very tense incidence situation in Saxony and a new Corona protection regulation, the originally planned gala award ceremony for all laureates of this year’s awards in gala character in the Dresden State Operetta on November 11, 2021 has been cancelled. The prizes will now be awarded alternatively within individual formats to this year’s laureates in the presence of well-known personalities at the respective locations of the laureates. These include Berlin, Vienna, Witten, Bonn and Düsseldorf. https://kulturmarken.de/veranstaltungen/kulturmarken-award.
The awards for innovative cultural management, trend-setting cultural marketing and sustainable cultural promotion, which were established in 2006 by the cultural manager Hans-Conrad Walter, are regarded as Europe’s most advanced cultural awards and honor forward-looking cultural projects in a total of eight competition categories. This year, a 40-member jury selected 10 award winners from the 110 entries.
In the category „European Cultural Investor of the Year 2021“, the jury chose the European Cultural Foundation from Amsterdam and its cultural investment via the „Culture of Solidarity Fund“. Established in March 2020 in response to the coronavirus crisis, the fund supports innovative cultural initiatives that cross European borders, professional sectors, and artistic disciplines to provide collaborative solutions to pandemic challenges and solidarity support.
The coveted prize sculpture AURICA was received by the Executive Director of the European Cultural Foundation André Wilkens from the juror Andrea Joras and Hans-Conrad Walter, the initiator of the European Cultural Brand Awards, on behalf of the 40-member expert jury on November 30, at 10 am.
The Berlin scene club TRESOR was chosen as the location for the presentation of the award to the European Cultural Foundation. The TRESOR Foundation has been a grantee of the Culture of Solidarity Fund since the beginning of November. Dimitri Hegemann, founder and operator of the legendary techno club Tresor, was present on behalf of the TRESOR Foundation and presented a new project, which will be implemented in cooperation with the European Cultural Foundation within the next year to promote culture in Eastern Europe.
The award winners will be honored within individual events with an AURICA, a 23 centimeter high waxed bronze statue. AURICA, a Romanian girl’s name meaning the golden one, carries everything that is so desirable: aura, aurum and eureka. The sculpture also stands for the excellence, attractiveness and diversity of the European cultural market and symbolizes the valuable mediation work of European cultural providers and the outstanding commitment of European cultural promoters.
The European Cultural Brand Awards are sponsored by the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism and the state capital Dresden, and the Hoffbauer Foundation is the prize sponsor. The competition is also supported by over 60 other partners from the business world.
