The latest development in the 15-year relationship between
Barlo-world Equipment Handling and BHP Billiton’s Bayside
alumi- nium smelter, in Richards Bay, is the renewal of a
long-term, five-year rental agreement, with the replacement of
approximately 30 machines.
“Not only is Barloworld Equip-ment Handling a leader in the
forklift business, with rugged prsteel for impact crushingoducts suited to the specific
conditions at Bayside, but this is matched by the necessarymanufacturers of stone crushers in india service
and back-up,” comments Northern Kwazulu-Natal regiblake double toggle jaw crusher priceonal
manager Leslie Venketas.
The rental agreement was entered into for the first time in 2000,
when Bayside took delivery of 29 Dezzi tractors and 38 Hyster
forklifts in a R17,5-million deal, which resulted in Barloworld
Equip- ment Handling establishing a 24/7 service workshop at the
aluminium smelter, together with a comprehensive parts inventory
and the option to source replacement machines from Barloworld
Equipment Handling’s short-term rental fleet.
“The forklifts have been fitted with rotators in order to
allow them to be able to function in the pot rooms, while the 7-t
machines have been designed specifically in conjunction with Hyster
and Barloworld for a primary metals-handling application,”
explains Venketas.
Richards Bay Hillside produces remelt merchant products and
aluminium in T-bar form, while Bayside specialises in value-added
products for downstream manufacturers, including wire rod, extru-
sion billet, foundry alloy and rolling slab.
