Local valve manufacturer and supplier Spirax Sarco reports that extended life and simple maintenance help to achieve a low cost of ownership for the company’s Spira-Trol two-port general service control stone crushing mechanismvalves.
Spirax Sarco reports that its site and laboratory testing has shown that Spira-Trol valves enjoy substantially longer stem seal life than most other valves. Hard trim materials and a design that diffuses the discharge from the plug and seat and reduces internal flow velocities to lessen internal erosion extend valve life. These features help to reduce the frequency of plant shutdowns for valve maintenance.
The company reports that, when required, the maintenance of a Spira-Trol valve is quick and easy and does not require specialist tools as the valves have self-aligning, clamp-in-place internals. This results in cost savings compared with conventional valves with screw-in seats that can seize in place, requiring the valve to be removed from the pipeline and incurring a lengthy plant shutdown.
Spirax Sarco says that the simple assembly also helps to ensure that maintenance procedures do not compromise the valve’s performance.
The valves use a modular design that lessens the total number of components in the range. This lowers maintenance costs by enabling the duty of a valve to be changed quickly by replacing a few internal com- ponents, rather than swapping the entire valve.
Spira-Trol has been developed using computational fluid dynamics and rapid prototyping to improve flow paths, flow characteristics and rangeability. This enables Spirax Sarco to guarantee the precise flow control of many different fluid types used in most applications in a wide range of industries.
Several optional trims are available to suit a large variety of applications, from low-noise and low-flow applications, to high-temper-ature and zero-emission requirements.
The range is available as EN versions from DN15 to DN100 sizes and as ANSI versions, which range from 0,5-inch to 4-inch sizes. The company says the range can be used with electric or pneumatic actuation, fitted with positioners and can be interfaced easily with an external control system.
