Pumps, principles and practice

According to the South African Pump Manufacturers Association (Sapma), the pump is the most used piece of equipment in the world, after the electronic motor.

However, despite its popularity, the pcrusher machine price india marketump and pumping principles are often misunderstood.

And it was in recognition of this need that Sapma extended its popular yearly course to four days this year to provide more in-depth training, from July 3 to July 6 in Boksburg, Johannesburg.

Each subject was presented by experts in their fields, all of whom are involved in the pumping industry with many years of experience.

The modules that were covered at the seminar included pumping units and formulae, the properties of fluids, hydrostatic pressure (the pressure which is exerted on a portion of a column of fluid as a result of the weight of the fluid above it), basic concepts of fluid motion and the loss of head of flowing liquids.

Other areas that were covered included vortices, pump operations, specific speed, system characteristics and pump performance, suction con- ditions and net positive suction head and its effect on pump performance and design features and pump types and mechanical features.

Presenters also spoke on pump driving units including electric motors, couplings and variable speed drivers, installation and operation of pumping equipment, maintenance practice and faultfinding, postitive displacement pump types and performance, submersible pumps and how to operate a practical workshop.

Delegates were presented with certificates at the end of the course.
