Brussel, January 31, 2014 – As the leading party in the consortium, MWH Global has been awarded the contract for providing technical assistance in 26 states of West and Central Africa under the EU Technical Assistance Facility for „Sustainable Energy for All“ (SE4All). SE4All is a global initiative launched by the UN and supported by the European Union, which aims to contribute to an increased universal access to modern energy services, as well as double the rate of improvement in energy efficiency, and double the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.
The consortium led by MWH will be responsible for the delivery of the technical assistance services at country and regional level to support the countries in reaching the SE4All objectives and to significantly increase investment in the energy sector. The contract work will include activities such as an initial assessment of access to electricity and national initiatives in sustainable energy and energy efficiency in each of the countries and, based on the findings, supporting the local governments with energy sector policies, provide them with necessary capacity building and encourage partnerships between the public and private sector. The consortium will also provide technical support in programming and project preparations in the field of rural electrification, renewable energies, energy efficiency and energy savings.
Wim Drossaert, Europe Africa President at MWH Global: „It’s an incredible accomplishment to play such an important role in this global initiative. This project will give us the opportunity to make a difference in the economic and societal development across the African continent, as well as showcase our experience and knowledge of renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change.“
Mads Baden Jensen, Operations Director at MWH Global in Brussels: „We are very proud and modest at the same time on what the project could achieve for the lives of many in Africa, and we are conscious that we now have a real responsibility to make this project a success with a measurable impact on life in Africa.“
