(Image:formal dresses)Beauty giant Pond’s welcomes summer with a new product and a new face: 19-year-old Jasmine Curtis-Smith, recently awarded for her supporting role in indie film Transit and on the way to her own TV series.

Pond’s hosted a poolside event at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza on Monday to launch the campaign and welcome the actress to the Pond’s family, who cried after she was announced and made her way to the stage.

“I am so nervous,” Jasmine said apologetically. “Before walking [here], I was shaking.”

The event’s host, Sam Oh, was surprised. “She is crying. I am not even kidding,” the ETC host said, astonished. To Jasmine, she said, “How are you in this industry, darling?”

“I don’t know”’ Jasmine replied, laughing a little. She was given some tissue to dry her eyes, and she apologized to her make-up artist.

Ponds‘ senior brand manager Cesca Silvestre remarked how this makes her a refreshing choice for Pond’s.

Despite her hectic schedule, she makes sure that she takes care of herself, and handles her beauty, believing that it’s a source of strength that enables her to achieve her dreams,” Silvestre explained.

To Jasmine, she said, “I’m really floored that you’re so humbled by all this attention. It’s refreshing.”

Jasmine was brought on to endorse Pond’s new White Beauty SPF15 Cream, the latest from the Pond’s Institute. Banking on the “76 percent of Filipinas who desire fairer skin,” the cream makes use of Korean Ginseng and Saffron to give the Pond’s “signature rosy white glow” and boasts of a unique powder finish for the hot and humid summer ahead.

Cesca explained that women’s biggest skincare worries happen in the summer because of the sun – too much exposure means long term damage, and the hot humidity means extra active oil glands.

Dermatologist Dr. Anna Palabyab was also around to debunk several skincare and SPF-related myths. She explained the difference between UVB and UVA rays, both harmful to the skin, and the reason why broad-spectrum sun block is important.

“UVB rays make your skin burn, while UVA rays make your skin age — these are things like lines, leathery skin damage, and so on,” she said.

Pond’s White Beauty debuted its TV commercial at the event, featuring a fresh-looking Jasmine. The commercial is set to air nationally next week, and versions in Indonesian and Vietnamese are to follow in those respective countries.

Of the commercial, Jasmine said, “I don’t want to sound like I’m so vain by saying it looks beautiful, but they really shot the TVC very well, and everyone was so kind and welcoming. And everyone was so professional.”

Of the Pond’s crew, she said warmly, “Aside from feeling so overwhelmed about it, I feel very thankful, very special to have an endorsement like Pond’s and to be part of this family.”

When asked for her own list of summer essentials, Jasmine responded, “I’d have a cute bikini, for when I come out of the water, to look cute. And of course cover-ups, for when you’re not in the water, when you’re lounging around. And then a milkshake — or fruit shake na lang, para healthy.”

As for her future plans apart from her upcoming TV series, she said that she is currently doing work on two movies.

“A new movie — not sure if it’s allowed to be discussed yet — but I’m working on that, and another movie, called Dementia, with Ms Nora Aunor.”

No beach plans for the summer?

“I’m hoping I will be able to be at the beach for Holy Week and for my birthday,” said Jasmine, whose birthday is in April. “Perfect birthday gift for me.”Also read here:evening dresses
