Engineering firm installs flotation cells at SA platinum mine

Engineering company Bateman Engineering recently installed its BQR flotation cell technology at the Blue Ridge platinum and Smokey Hills platinum projects, in South Africa.

In addi-
tion, flotation circuits have also been successfully completed for Hindustan Zinc, in India, and at African Copper’s Botswana copper project and the Somisy Syama gold mine, in south-eastern Mali.

GRD Minproc awarded the contract for the flotation circuit for the Smokey Hills platinum project to Bateman Engineered Technologies, painstallation erection contractor of a stone crusherrt of the Bateman Engineering group. The circuit consists of  six banks comprising eight Bateman BQR200 flotation cells for primary and secondary roughing, four Bateman BQR100 flotation30 ton rock crusher equipment price in india cells for scavenging and 13 Bateman BQR50 flotation cells for cleaning and recleaning.

The flotation circuit was supplied complete with all interconnecting piping walkways and blowers.

The Sspecialized gold mining equipmentmokey Hills project, in Mpumalanga, owned by Platinum Australia, is located on the eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex, and has a plant design capacity of 97 000 oz/y of three platinum-group metals and gold.

The Blue Ridge platinum concentrator, in Groblersdal, has two circuits of  flotation cells, a pri-
mary and a secondary circuit.

The primary circuit consists of seven flotation cells for roughing and eight flotation cells for cleaning and recleaning.

The secondary circuit is made up of eight flotation cells for roughing and 11 flotation cells for cleaning and recleaning.

Bateman Engineering Projects was also awarded the overall $59-million lump-sum turnkey project to construct the concentrator, and conducted the prefeasibility study as well as the full feasibility study for this plant, which is targeting 125 000 oz/y of platinum-group metals.

The plant treats upper-group-two-type material from underground, using a flow sheet in which the fine product, following primary milling, is fed to the primary rougher, cleaner and
recleaner flotation circuit.

The concentrate is then col-
lected for filtration and shipping to a toll facility, while the primary
flotation tailings are dewatered, classified, using hydrocyclones, and then fed to a secondary mill to achieve a fine grind.

The mill product feeds the
secondary flotation circuit where the concentrate is jointly filtered with the primary concentrate ready for shipment and the tailings are discarded.
