BACK ON THE RAILS

Engineering company Hydro Power Equipment (HPE) is to supply Lonmin Platinum with six flat-end systems, two long-hole rigs and two monorail raise rigs.

The flat-end systems will be used to develop the main haulages and crosscuts, the two long-hole rigs will be used to develop boxholes and for the drilling of annex holes, and the two monorail raise rigs will be used in the development of raises and travelling ways.

HPE CEO André Swart says that the company will be delivering the first set of eiron ore mining philippinesquipment to Lonmin towards the middle of March, with the remainder to be rolled out over eight months.

He adds that the mechanised track-bound equipment to be supplied by HPE does not have the significant import costs asjual beli mesin crusher batu bekassociated with trackless equipment, and requires lower levels of maintenance skills.

Swart says that the effects of the global economic slowdown on HPE have been mixed.

“To say that there has been no effect on all kind of mining equipmentsthe company would be false. HPE has been affected by the crisis, to a degree. “However, with mining com- panies looking to cut costs, HPE can provide locally manufactured equipment [which costs less than] imported equipment,” says Swart.

All equipment offered operates off high-pressure water provided by a mobile Power Pack pump system.
Flat-end drill rigs will be used to advance at a rate of 2,5 m to 2,7m for each blast blast. The rig is also used to drill roof-bolt holes.

The long-hole drill rig is used for boxhole development and drills the blast holes from the bottom up. Workers are, therefore, removed from the danger area. The rig is used for the drilling of annex holes and can accurately drill holes of up to 80 m at a dia-meter of 165 mm.

The monorail-type raise rig is used to develop raises and travelling ways up to 34˚. The advance rate is anything between 2,2 m and 2,4 m for each blast.

The rig is also used to drill roof-bolt holes and to convey materials up the raise.
