Pulamanthole: Unnikrishnan, a native of Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district in Kerala, has never been to any fashion designing institute. The self-made costume designer learned stitching from his mother Janaki and has been working as a tailor in his home town for the past 25 years.
When the opportunity to design the Indian costume for Manushi Chhillar for the Miss India pageant came to him, he put his heart and soul into it. Six sleepless days and nights that he spent for designing the Indian costume, however, did not go in vain.
He is happy that Manushi is now crowned the Miss World 2017.
Unnikrishnan, who could not resume his studies after class 10 for several reasons, was a good artist since childhood. It was a fashion show by Hari Anand that inspired him to take up fashion designing.
He learned the art by sitting at home, creating own designs and experimenting with colours. The gates to the new world of opportunities opened before Unnikrishnan through his Facebook contacts.
Nikhil Anand of ‘Glam Anand’ in Delhi had faith in the talent of this young man and endorsed his name for big pageants.
Unnikrishnan has designed the national costume for Miss India International 2017 finalist Ankita Kumari.
He is currently running a stitching centre in Perinthalmanna. He is now planning to start a new fashion designing establishment in Ernakulam.Read more at:evening wear | online formal dresses australia
