Mining services company Scharrig Min- ing says its short-term focus
is on integrating the acquisitions it concluded last year and
pursuing further opportunities that are consistent with its growth
strategy.
“We are looking at optimising our operations and deepening
our service offering to look for opportunities to acquire
businesses that have the same synergies as us,” said CEO
Robin Berry at the group’s annuaroll grinding machinel results presentation last
week.
He noted that all the company’s acquisitions were
“trading well and the next focus will becrusher manufacturers uk on deepening the
mining services offering across the continent”.
“Strategic opportunities will also be considered where the
company identifies significant gconical crusher maintenancerowth opportunities in
mining.”
Berry said the company sought to achieve vertical integration in
both upstream and downstream businesses – a strategy which
resulted in the acquisition of Geosearch – and to expand the
mining services offering horizontally in support of its core
opencast business. The later strategy resulted in the acquisition
of JEF Drill & Blast and the recently announced acquisition of
Ritchie Crane Hire.
“Contract mining is experiencing growth and Scharrig will
continue to diversify and grow the business from the platform
established in coal, as seen recently by the acquisition of CCT,
which is a springboard into hard-rock (noncoal) opencast mining. We
are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead,”
explained Berry.
The company is one of the leading opencast coal-mining contractors
in South Africa, and through the acquisition of Geosearch, in 2006,
is now also one of the leading exploration drilling companies in
Africa.
Berry said the company’s objective was to broaden the
company’s footprint across Africa by developing opencast
services, and shifting towards mining would be achieved through
joint-venture partnerships or further acquisition
opportunities.
